Boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in Chania, Crete

Chania are lined with long stretches of golden sand or more secluded coves. In general, beaches situated on the northern part of Chania are open and more vulnerable to the strong winds. On the other hand, southern beaches are more quiet, secluded and certainly of unique beauty, due to their slightly difficult access. What' s more, when it comes to the beaches of Chania, we couldn't possible forget to mention the charming beaches of Gavdos, the southern part of Europe.

Below you can find a list with beaches for every type of visitor.

Located 7km from the city of Chania, Stalos beach is perfectly organized featuring all necessary tourist amenities. This long and sandy shore is awarded with a Blue Flag for its crystal clear waters, every summer. If you don't drive, then no worries at all, as the beach is accessible with the public transportation from the center of Chania.

The seaside resort of Platanias is 11km west of Chania; however, thanks to its substantial development one might think it's a suburb of the city. The long sandy beach of Platanias is lined with a great variety of beach clubs and bars for fun nights out, and is also organized with parasols and sun beds, as well as snack bars and water sports.

The beach of Falasarna, 59km from the center of Chania, is one of the most famous beaches in Greece and is considered to be the best in Crete. In the past, it has also been listed among the ten best beaches in Europe. This extremely long stretch of white sand boasts turquoise waters rivaling the Caribbean shores. Thanks to its extensive length, Falasarna is ideal for all, either you seek a lively beach bar to spend your day on the beach or a more serene ambiance to soak up that all important sun, sea and sand in peace.

Situated 76km southwest of Chania, Elafonisi is a long and narrow peninsula, separated by the sea in parts creating the sense of an island. There is a protected Natura area filled with sea daffodils and cedar trees. However, be very careful with the area's flora as it is very rare and you are not allowed to take any with you.

In terms of swimming, there is a plethora of beaches along the peninsula. Some of them feature fine white sand and others are lined with a very special pink sand due to the many broken sea shells. What's more, there is a lagoon ideal for children and the eastern side of Elafonisi offers well-organized beaches with parasols, showers, lifeguards, snack-bars and changing rooms.

Spend an unforgettable summer in Chania of Crete, Greece!
