Where to swim in Santorini

Thanks to its volcanic nature the island of Santorini features unique formations creating a setting of lunar landscape. This is why the island’s beaches are completely different than in the rest of the Cycladic islands. But no need to worry as Santorini has a beach for every taste. So, read the list below to find the one for you!

Kamari Beach

Kamari is a fairly long stretch of black volcanic sand opening to the vast Aegean Sea. It's one of the most popular beaches on the island, as it's fully equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas. Kamari is also just 5km away from Ancient Thira, so visitors can combine their sightseeing tour with a refreshing dip in the deep blue sea.

Monolithos Beach

A beautiful sandy beach right next to Kamari, just 9km from Fira, and close to Santorini's airport. It's a well organized, yet quiet beach ideal for families, as it is also lined with hotels, beach bars and various modern amenities. The area was named after an imposing rock standing all alone (the name literally means a single rock).

Red Beach

Nestled amidst imposing reddish rocks and paved with fine red sand, this amazing beach close to the settlement of Akrotiri is the perfect destination for a romantic day on the beach, where you can soak up that all important sun, sea and sand away from the bustling resorts of Santorini. Stay until sunset and watch the whole setting turning into a palette of red shades.

Ammoudi Beach

Ammoudi, is a tiny charming port with a very small beach in the caldera at the foot of Oia. The waterfront is accessible by walking down 200 steps. However, the crystal clear sea, along with the excellent fish tavernas will certainly pay you off. Thanks to its quaint setting surrounded by with the imposing colorful volcanic rocks, Ammoudi is very popular among visitors who want to savor Santorini's rugged beauty!

Perivolos Beach

Crystal clear waters, soft black sand and a plethora of all-day restaurants, beach bars and chill-out venues right on the beach, Perivolos is perfect for visitors seeking to mix relaxation with fun. The beach is accessible by car, however it would be nice to leave your vehicle somewhere further and take a leisure walk along the promenade for some magical sunset views.
